Feature Master - Entry

Feature Master maintains information related to Feature Items. Feature Item is basically a non physical attribute of a manufactured item. It may or may not be a part of the product structure. Frequently, while manufacturing a finished product, an item within it can be used interchangeably with some other item without affecting the primary function of that item. To handle such cases, IMMS provides facility to define a feature that is common to all such items which can be used interchangeably. Once a feature is defined, various items that come under it can be defined too. Eventually, at the time of preparing a product structure or generating customer bill of material, the user will get flexibility in selecting any one item from the available items listed under given feature. Like other Items, Feature Items can be added through Item Master Basic Detail - Entry option with Item Type as 'FT'.

For example lets consider the bicycle as a product with required accessories. A bicycle can come with a saddle seat in two colours: 1) black seat or 2) blue seat. Therefore, the saddle colour can be a feature within which blue saddle and black saddle can be two different optional items with the same functional characteristics.
